A guest poses for the shot, then the LED wand sweeps to life beside him — the same moment, seconds apart.

How it works

An operator sweeps a glowing LED wand behind the guest while the camera holds a long exposure, so the sweep records as a solid trail of light instead of disappearing. The result is one photo where the guest is sharp and lit, and the space around them glows with a hand-painted arc of color that only exists in that single frame.

Photography as performance art

The Light Painting booth is unlike anything else on the floor. It takes place in a specially darkened space where guests hold still while light becomes the paintbrush. Using a long camera exposure, our operators - and the guests themselves - trace glowing streaks, halos, names and shapes through the air with LED wands, glow sticks and colorful lasers. The camera records every trail, layering them into a single luminous, otherworldly image.

What makes it special is that every result is genuinely one of a kind. There's no template and no repeat: the marks a guest draws, the colors they pick, the way they move - all of it combines into a photograph that can never be duplicated. Guests aren't just posing, they're creating art, and that authorship is exactly why the images feel so personal.

Write a couple's names in glowing script, surround the graduate in a burst of light, draw a heart around two people - the booth turns abstract light into meaningful, gallery-worthy keepsakes that look like nothing a standard camera can produce.

The full creative experience

This is a guided, hands-on experience rather than a step-up-and-smile booth. An attendant sets the scene, hands guests their light brushes, and coaches them through the long-exposure process so first-timers get a stunning result on the first try. The darkened setup and professional long-exposure cameras do the heavy lifting; the guests supply the imagination.

Every session delivers an unlimited 4x6 print of the finished piece plus a high-resolution digital copy, and on-screen sharing lets guests send their light art straight to their phones. A custom print template ties it back to your event or brand.

  • Long-exposure light-painting photography
  • LED wands, glow sticks and colorful laser brushes
  • A completely unique image every single time
  • Unlimited 4x6 prints (in place of the standard 2×6 strip)
  • Hands-on guidance from a professional attendant throughout
  • On-screen sharing and data capture
  • Custom print template

Best for activations, campus events and events that stand apart

The Light Painting booth is for organizers who want the booth nobody else at the event has seen. At corporate activations and university and college events it becomes a team-collaboration piece where a group paints a logo, shape or campaign message together - a genuinely different branded moment. It's just as memorable at weddings, where it draws romantic light hearts and monograms, and at galas, graduations, bar mitzvahs and milestone birthdays, all of which get keepsakes with real artistic weight.

Because the images are so unusual, they generate organic buzz - guests share them precisely because they don't look like typical booth photos, giving your event an outsized social footprint. The trade-off is space and setup: it needs a 15'x15' darkened area and one standard outlet, so it's best in a room or corner that can be dimmed. For something equally artistic but faster-paced, compare it with our AI and Green Screen booths.

The same real setup, frame by frame:

1A guest stands in front of the blacked-out light painting backdrop before the LED wand comes out

1. The space goes dark and the guest steps up to the backdrop.

2The same guest lit by crossed blue-white and magenta LED wand streaks during the long-exposure light painting pass

2. The shutter stays open while an LED wand sweeps glowing trails around them.

3The finished long-exposure light-art portrait of a group, with glowing magenta and cyan light trails, shown on the booth's share screen

3. That single long-exposure frame — sharp guest, glowing trail — lands on screen instantly.

4A group of guests laughing together in front of the light painting backdrop after seeing their result

4. It prints and shares in seconds, and no two ever come out the same.

FAQ

Good questions, straight answers.

How does a light painting photo booth work?

In a darkened space, the camera takes a long exposure while guests and an operator move glowing wands, glow sticks or lasers through the air. The camera records those light trails and layers them into one luminous photograph.

Is every light painting photo really unique?

Yes. Because the image depends on the exact marks, colors and movements each guest makes, no two are ever the same. There's no template to repeat, so every print is a genuine one-of-a-kind piece of art.

Do guests need artistic skill to get a good photo?

Not at all. An attendant guides everyone through the process and handles the technical side, so even first-timers walk away with a striking result. The tools are simple - wave a light, and the camera does the rest.

Why does it need a dark space?

Long-exposure light painting only works when the light trails are the brightest thing in the frame. A darkened area lets the glowing marks stand out cleanly against a black background for that dramatic, luminous look.

What are the space requirements?

Plan for a 15'x15' area that can be darkened, with about 7.5 feet of clearance and one standard 110V outlet. We arrive an hour early to set up and dial in the exposure for your venue.
